TransGuard-MX (Ultra High Voltage Transformer Bushing Monitoring System)
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)
- 2026 Honoree in Sustainability & Energy Transition
TransGuard-MX is an innovative solution designed to prevent ultra-high voltage power transformer failures that can lead to fires, explosions, and widespread outages. Like a physician’s stethoscope capturing subtle heartbeats to diagnose health abnormalities, TransGuard-MX analyzes minute currents at the bushing—the critical bottleneck between transformer and transmission line—to assess equipment condition.
Particularly as global AI deployments and data center growth drive increased transformer replacements, capacity upgrades, and overloads, the risk of outage-causing failures has never been higher. Against this backdrop, TransGuard-MX employs a wideband sensor capable of detecting signals up to 700 MHz—35,000 times the bandwidth of conventional 20 kHz devices—enabling simultaneous capture of leakage currents, harmonics, and micro-discharge pulses. In addition, its diagnostic algorithm can forecast degradation up to twelve months in advance, delivering superior diagnostic precision. These capabilities enable utilities to build and operate a resilient grid infrastructure and contribute to the creation of a sustainable energy ecosystem.
